KUALA LUMPUR: An MP was ordered to apologise to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for wrongfully addressing His Majesty during debates on the motion of thanks on the Royal Address.

Datuk Azman Nasrudin (PN-Padang Serai) was ordered to stand and apologise to His Majesty by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

“I apologise for my mistake and carelessness when doing so in the debates. I take an oath to never repeat such mistakes in the future,” he told the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Feb 29).

Azman mistakenly addressed His Majesty as Sultan Iskandar, who is Sultan Ibrahim’s father.

He did so when debating the motion of thanks on the Royal Address on Wednesday (Feb 28).

Johari said this was a serious offence as it was mentioned in Parliament.

He also reminded MPs not to cross the line on certain issues, especially when it came to how the Malay Royals were addressed.

“May this be a lesson and no longer be repeated,” he said.
