AN MP has been ordered to apologise to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for wrongly addressing His Majesty during the debate on the motion of thanks on the royal address.

Datuk Azman Nasrudin (PN-Padang Serai) was ordered to stand and apologise to Sultan Ibrahim by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

“I apologise for my mistake and being careless during the debate. I take an oath to never repeat such a mistake in the future,” he said in his apology at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Azman mistakenly addressed His Majesty as Sultan Iskandar, who is Sultan Ibrahim’s late father.

He did so when debating the motion of thanks on the royal address on Wednesday.

Johari said this was a serious offence as it was mentioned in Parliament.

He also reminded MPs to not cross the line on certain issues, especially when it came to how the Malay Rulers were addressed.

“May this be a lesson and no longer be repeated,” he added.
