A POLITICAL influencer has thrown what is seemingly the darndest idea to the Education Ministry (MOE) when he suggested that the latter should learn from PAS on how “to source for teachers who are willing to accept a salary of RM600 and with no pension nor EPF (Employees Provident Fund) contribution”.

The influencer was commenting on the warning by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Che Keong that companies should not take the welfare of their workers lightly amid claims of the absence of retirement funds for teachers of PAS-affiliated Islamic kindergarten Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (PASTI).

Reacting to the tweet by Roman Akramovich, a netizen went on to suggest that both the Home Ministry and Defence Ministry, too, emulate the employment model that leverages charitable deeds. And that can be extended to other ministries such as the Health Ministry whereby doctors and nurses become instant volunteers.

In fact, another netizen shared that teachers at public religious schools in Kedah, too, “received less than RM600 in the past”, thus prompting those school to be converted into government-assisted religious schools whereby both the fate and facilities at those schools are better safeguarded.

Above all else, the Education Ministry can assume the name of “Voluntary Education Ministry”.

On that note, several netizens urged the Finance Minister to make PAS MPs exemplary by proposing that they work voluntarily with a RM600/month allowance.

One netizen even suggested to allow PAS to administer the Federal government in the quest to cut down on the nation’s administrative expenses.

However, some hardcore PAS supporters reckoned that the contribution of Al-Quran and Fardu Ain (KAFA) teachers cannot be undermined for their contributions have enabled many children “to acknowledge God” and “to pray five times daily”.

Or teasingly, like this netizen has suggested, suffice to “just include perks like free tickets to syurga (heaven).” - March 23, 2024
