KUALA LUMPUR: Several individuals are expected to be charged on Tuesday over the controversial socks issue.

It was learnt that five people are expected to be charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Tuesday (March 26) morning.

"They will be facing charges under Section 109 and Section 298 of the Penal Code for abetment and wounding the religious feelings of any person," said a source.

It was reported that the police recommended that KK Super Mart and a vendor be charged over the issue.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain had said that investigations were completed and investigation papers submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC).

"We have recommended that both KK Super Mart and the vendor of the socks be prosecuted, and we are now waiting for instructions from the AGC," he said at a press conference on Saturday (March 23).

Police opened four IPs after 143 police reports were lodged nationwide.

The case is classified under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing "disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion".

Police are also investigating under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misusing network facilities.

An apology note has been put up on electronic displays or cash register screens at KK Super Mart outlets nationwide.
