DOE, waste management company monitoring air quality at chemical storage area after fire

PETALING JAYA: The Department of Environment (DOE) and waste management centre Cenviro Sdn Bhd (Kualiti Alam) are monitoring the air quality at the chemical waste storage plant at Bukit Pelanduk, Port Dickson after it was destroyed in a fire on Friday (April 12).

State climate change committee chairman S. Veerapan said that his office is waiting for a detailed report from the DOE on the incident.

"Although no casualties were reported in the incident, an additional investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the fire," Sinar Harian quoted Veerapan as saying on Facebook on Saturday (April 13).

He said the local authority and the state government have taken responsibility and are handling the situation effectively and efficiently.

Veerapan said that he also hopes the situation can be overcome swiftly and preventive measures are taken to prevent a reoccurrence of such a fire in the future.

On Friday, a logistics site of chemical waste storage at Cenviro Sdn Bhd (Kualiti Alam), Ladang Tanah Merah at Bukit Pelanduk, Port Dickson was destroyed in a fire.

According to the Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department, an emergency call was received at 5.58pm involving 6,500 square metres at Shed A.
