KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg will take part in forums addressing global climate and renewable energy concerns in Poland next week.

He would speak about Sarawak's perspective and initiatives in energy transition, renewable energy security, decarbonisation, and environmental sustainability at the Central European Hydrogen Technology Forum and the Central European Decarbonisation Forum, which would be held in Poznan, Poland, on April 24-25.

In a statement on Thursday (April 18), the Sarawak Premier's Office said Abang Johari would depart for Poland from Britain on Friday (April 19).

The statement said, "The Premier will speak as a forum panel member in a session called Debate Regions for the Planet, slotted for 11am to noon local time on April 24."

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and State Deputy Energy and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni are among those accompanying Abang Johari.

While on a three-day transit in Britain, Abang Johari and his entourage would visit the Drax power plant in Selby, North Yorkshire, on Sunday (April 21).

The following day, he will witness the signing and exchange of a memorandum of understanding between Sarawak's SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd and Britain's Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult in London.

"Through the memorandum, Sarawak seeks to forge collaboration with its British partner to drive innovations that will reshape the capabilities and applications of compound semiconductors," the statement said.
