KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry is taking a cautious approach before enforcing any penalties concerning the delayed completion of the combat diving pool in Kem Iskandar.

Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasised the importance of thorough checks before deciding on any actions, ensuring compliance with regulations and fairness to all parties involved.

"We can't rush into decisions. I've been briefed by the project officer that the pool is set to be completed by June. It's nearly there, just a few final touches left," Nanta said.

He highlighted the need for a comprehensive review before penalties could be applied, mentioning that no official claims for additional costs had been received by the government.

"We will adhere to the terms of their contract. If any claims arise, they will be carefully examined to determine their validity. So far, there have been no claims, so there's no added financial burden at present," Nanta explained.

On Tuesday, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi instructed the public works department to pull up their socks to complete construction works on the combat diving pool in Kem Iskandar, immediately.

On Monday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in construction, calling for accountability from the responsible parties.

The pool meant for the Special Forces Group's (GGK) commando training purposes, is almost 98 per cent completed, while the remaining finishing touches including tiling, pathways and doors, among others, are currently under construction.
