REMBAU: MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said the party stood firm on its stance to have a candidate from Barisan Nasional (BN) contesting in the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election slated for May 11.

He said the party's suggestion on the matter has been conveyed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Wee said the matter was agreed upon during MCA's political development committee meeting held at the party's headquarters yesterday.

"Prior to the meeting, we have stated that the by-election candidate should be from BN.

"The matter, which is a collective decision by the party, was also conveyed to the prime minister, as well as deputy prime minister, who is also BN chairman," said Wee when met at Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's Raya open house in Kampung Tanjong Rantau today.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong from Pakatan Harapan on March 21.

Early voting will be held on May 7 and nomination day on April 27.
