JOHOR BARU: The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone is on the verge of unlocking high-paying jobs and vibrant career prospects for the state's young talents.

Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the special zone initiatives would further boost and accelerate the state's economic growth.

"Foreign investors are expected to flock to the JS-SEZ, bringing new investments while transforming Johor's landscape in line with the Maju Johor 2030 agenda.

"The JS-SEZ initiative will generate over 100,000 high-paying job opportunities in various industries and sectors, which will provide substantial prospects for the younger generation," he said in his opening speech at the 9th Johor International Student Leaders Conference, here, today.

He added that the state government was committed to creating opportunities for the people to achieve financial stability and realise their goals of attaining financial freedom.

Onn Hafiz also encouraged students to strive for excellence and gain the necessary qualifications to seize the opportunities made available.

He said the state government will support their efforts with grants, scholarships and leadership programmes.

"My top priority is to tap into Johor's unrealised potential, and transform it into a high income, highly-developed state by the year 2030, which is the core of the Johor Maju blueprint," Onn Hafiz said.

Johor Maju is built on six strategic focus areas: governance and administration; economic development; social safety nets; facilities and basic needs; safety, hygiene and cleanliness; and, the youth.

In the past two years, 55 strategies and 209 initiatives from the Johor Maju agenda have been put into action.

This has attracted RM113.7 billion in investments and generated over 35,000 job opportunities.

Onn Hafiz said, for Johor to become a developed state within the next six years, with top-tier infrastructure, world-class living standards, and a forward-thinking mindset comparable to the best in the world, the youth must also actively contribute to this vision.
