KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Indian People Party (MIPP) officially joined Perikatan Nasional today.

Its president, S.P. Punithan, said his party was the best option for the Indian community, especially since the support for MIC had dropped tremendously in the last election.

"Today is a historical moment for the Malaysian Indian community. There is anger towards Pakatan Harapan and their promises and pledges that remain unfulfilled, especially towards the Indian community.

"This time, PN has accepted the Indian community. We will introduce our agenda and I believe PN will lead the Indian community in the coming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election and the 16th General Election," he said, when met by reporters after the PN supreme council meeting earlier this evening.

Punithan, 39, said MIPP was preparing a new economic narrative for the Indian community, and said a major difference between them and MIC was that the party consisted of young leaders.

He also said the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election would mark a swing of support towards PN.

"The Indian community will support whoever the candidate is. MIPP will lead the machinery for the Indian community," he added.

PN is expected to announce its candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-elections on Thursday.
