JOHOR BARU: The Johor government has vowed to create more high-paying jobs and career opportunities for the people through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the JS-SEZ was expected to attract foreign investment and boost the economic growth of the state.

“This initiative will transform the landscape of Johor.

“We will create an additional 100,000 quality, high-paying jobs and career opportunities in various industries for each and everyone of you (here today),” he told the students at the ninth Johor International Student Leaders Conference at a hotel here on Monday (April 22).

Onn Hafiz added that such jobs would give Johoreans financial stability and enable them to realise their dreams of buying a house and a car, supporting their parents, and travelling.

“I urged all students to work hard, get the relevant qualifications and gain the necessary knowledge that will enable you to access all these opportunities.

“To support you in this journey, there are grants, scholarships and leadership programmes created for you to help you leave your mark in Johor and play a part in building a better state for generations to come,” he said.

He also told the 1,500 students and teachers present at the conference about his vision for Johor to be a developed state by 2030.

“I want Johor to have top-notch infrastructure, world-class living conditions, and a first-class mentality, which is at par with some of the best civilisations in the world.

“These plans and my vision for the state are best encapsulated in the Maju Johor 2030 strategy, which is already starting to bear fruit.

“Within the past two years, 55 strategies and 209 initiatives have been implemented; as a result, Johor has generated a total of RM113.7bil in investments and created over 35,000 job opportunities,” he added.
