PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has initiated a probe against a senior state leader over claims that he appointed companies which he has vested interests in for several projects.

Sources with knowledge of the investigation said the individual, a leader in a northern state, is believed to have awarded projects worth RM300,000 to these companies.

It is learnt that the leader also allegedly appointed several companies, which his son is said to have an interest in, for maintenance and renovation works for the state leader's office involving a RM1mil allocation.

"It is believed that these projects were monopolised by his son's companies," said a source.

Investigations so far show that the offences were committed between January 2023 and March 2024.

"These companies are also believed to have submitted documents containing false information and are said to have been given 5% of the project value.

"So far, investigators have identified 15 companies," said the same source.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that investigations are being carried out into the matter.
