Civil servants, teen among 30 nabbed in Batu Pahat entertainment outlet drug sweep

JOHOR BARU: Police arrested 30 suspected drug addicts including 11 civil servants during a raid on an entertainment outlet in Batu Pahat in the early hours of this morning.

Police screened 49 patrons of the outlet which was operating beyond its legal operation hours.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said among the 30 arrested in the operation codenamed 'Ops Hiburan', was a 17-year-old teenager.

There were also six foreigners, while the remaining suspects were local men and six women.

The 17-year-old old boy tested positive for methamphetamine, ketamine and benzodiazepine.

Benzodiazepine is a type of psychoactive drug commonly used to treat anxiety, insomnia, seizures, muscle spasms and alcohol withdrawal.

The outlet's 29-year-old caretaker was also arrested.

Police obtained a four-day remand order against the suspects that included government officers aged between 24 and 49.
