KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has lodged a report against blogger Murray Hunter over what it calls "slanderous" accusations against it and the police.

In a statement, MCMC said Hunter's claims that it and the police were politically aligned were baseless.

"As a statutory body, MCMC carries out its duties in accordance with the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"Enforcement action taken by MCMC complies with established processes and procedures."

It said Hunter's claims that MCMC had overstepped its authority was slanderous.

"He has also claimed that MCMC and the police are trying to scare the public."

The regulator said spreading false information and publishing misleading information about MCMC were offences under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"If Murray Hunter has any complaints about MCMC, he may lodge a report through official channels."
