KOTA KINABALU: No offer was made to Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin to become Umno secretary-general in exchange for his support, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"I saw a video of the campaigner who said I offered him to be the Umno secretary-general if he supported me as the Umno president in 2018,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said this person should stop telling lies and that “enough is enough”.

"I want to tell this person that there was no offer for him to be the secretary-general. I ask that he repent and to not lie in every election or by-election.

"Unfortunately, he is the head of opposition in Parliament now. I hope he won’t lie when speaking in Parliament," he added.

"We hope the Madani government candidate will win in Saturday’s (May 11) Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state by-election," he said.

During a ceramah in Hulu Selangor on Thursday (May 9) night, Hamzah claimed to have been offered the Umno secretary-general post if he supported Ahmad Zahid as Umno president in 2018.

The KKB by-election sees a four-cornered fight involving Pang Sock Tao (Pakatan Harapan), Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).

It was held following the death of the incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, due to cancer on March 21.

Lee defeated her three opponents from Perikatan, Parti Rakyat Malaysia, and Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (Muda) in the state election that took place in August last year with a majority of 4,119 votes.
