IPOH: Several locations in the state have been hit by flash floods, forcing some residents to be relocated.

In Perak Tengah, 73 families, consisting of 209 people, were relocated to SK Simpang 3 in Parit after two areas, Kampung Serapoh and Kampung Buluh Akar, were inundated on Wednesday (May 22) evening.

A Civil Defence Force spokesman said the temporary shelter was opened at about 9pm.

"The areas were flooded after two hours of continuous rainfall. The drainage system overflowed, and water flowing down from the nearby hills compounded the situation," the spokesman said.

"At about 9.05pm, several houses were inundated and were no longer safe for the residents to stay in," he added.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the flood water level was about 1m high.

State Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer-in-charge Mohd Hamidi Manas said its personnel helped with the relocation process.

Meanwhile, at Taman Cempaka here, Mohd Hamidi said the flood water level was about 0.2m high.

"The water had entered the porches of the people's homes, but no relocation was required," he said, adding that the deluge was also caused by heavy rainfall.

There were also two areas in the state where landslide incidents were reported: Hulu Perak and Batang Padang.

The incidents occurred along FT004, or the East-West Highway, in Hulu Perak, and FT1152 near Felda Trolak Selatan in Batang Padang. Only one lane remained open to traffic at both locations.
