TOKYO: Prime Minister Seri Anwar Ibrahim has defended his decision to meet with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Anwar said he and Ismail had been friends for decades and there was no reason why he should not meet him.
But Anwar said in his meeting, he appealed to Ismail to accept calls for peace and the two state solution, as well as the release of captives.
"I have an advantage, I know them, I am a friend, so I appealed".
