SHAH ALAM: The former political secretary to opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was charged at the Sessions Court today with soliciting a RM350,000 bribe from a company managing director to secure a police force tender in December 2020.

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Sayed Mohamad,42, pleaded not guilty to a charge framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act (MACC) 2009 before judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

"(I) understand (the charge). I want to be tried," he said at the dock after the charge was read out to him.

The charge sheet read he had solicited RM350,000 from Wan Azhar Mohamed Yusof, the managing director of Nexuscorp Group Sdn Bhd, as gratification to assist the company in obtaining a tender.

The said tender is for the police force's RMPNET maintenance services and spare parts supplies for infrastructure tools, server, software and user radio system worth RM381,112,042.44.

He had allegedly committed the offence at 4pm in early December, 2020 at the office of Nexuscorp Group in Section 7 Industrial Area, here.

The offence, punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act, carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine not less than five times the amount of gratification or RM10,000; whichever is higher.

Deputy public prosecutor Fatin Farhana Ismail told the court that Sayed Amir was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday with two counts of accepting bribes and a RM60,000 bail with one surety was imposed with additional conditions.

She said the additional conditions were for Sayed Amir to surrender his passport to the court and not to harass prosecution witnesses until a case disposal as well as to report to the Kuala Lumpur MACC office monthly.

"If the court allows bail for this charge, we request for the bail and additional conditions imposed in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to be applicable here," she said.

She also confirmed that the prosecution will transfer the charge today to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to be tried together.

Defence counsel Md Yunos Shariff did not object.

Judge Awang Kerisnada allowed the prosecution's applications, including the case transfer and July 12 for mention as set by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

Yesterday, Sayed Amir was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with two counts of accepting RM100,000 and RM250,000 from Wan Azhar on two occasions in December 2020 for the same purposes.

He had allegedly committed the offences on Dec 4 and 16,2020 at the office of Yayasan Tanah Aku in Solaris Dutamas.
