Thunderstorms expected for peninsula and east Malaysia, says MetMalaysia

PETALING JAYA: Heavy thunderstorms have been forecasted to hit many regions in the North-east coast of peninsular Malaysia and east Malaysia, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

According to MetMalaysia, eight states will see thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 8pm on Thursday (May 30).

This includes the east coast states of Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Machang and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Marang and Dungun) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran and Kuantan)

The regions of Kedah (Padang Terap, Sik and Baling), Perak (Hulu Perak and Muallim) and Selangor (Hulu Selangor) are expected to also see similar turbulent weather.

In East Malaysia areas affected include Sarawak: Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Sibu (Sibu dan Selangau), Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Telang Usan) and Limbang.

Meanwhile in Sabah, the regions of Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom and Keningau), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu) and Kudat (Pitas) will be affected.

Thunderstorm warnings are issued when there are early signs of a forecasted thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour that were expected to occur close to or over an hour.

Road users in the affected areas, returning from work or otherwise, are advised to take note of the predicted weather and take necessary precautions on the road.
