KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is gradually restoring power supply to flood-affected consumers on the west coast areas of the state.

Its chief executive officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said restoration works are being carried out depending on access, local conditions and safety factors.

Advising the public to immediately report any flooding incidents in their residential areas, he said it was important to allow SESB to carry out power shutdowns to ensure public safety.

“It has been raining heavily lately and flooding may occur. The power shutdowns are critical to ensure public safety,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Yaakob advised the public to follow these five safety guidelines during flood situations.

According to him, people need to avoid using electrical equipment and ensure the main switch is turned off if instructed to evacuate.

“Do not touch electrical equipment, iron poles, or cables submerged in floodwaters, even if insulated, to avoid electric shocks.

“Make sure all socket switches are turned off and disconnected from any electrical appliances.

“If premises are equipped with a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, turn off the system before leaving home," he added.

For any emergencies, the public may reach SESB via their hotline at 15454, or 019-85225427 on WhatsApp or call 088-515000.
