KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry is currently obtaining feedback from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) regarding proposals to cancel the Black Hawk helicopter lease contract, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

“The Defence Ministry is getting legal views and advice from the AGC regarding this issue,” said the Defence Ministry briefly in a written reply dated June 27 (Thursday).

It was responding to Commander (Rtd) Nordin Ahmad Ismail to state what are the Defence Ministry’s plans regarding reports that the Malaysian Army will propose the cancellation of the Black Hawk helicopter lease contract.

The cancellation proposal was due to delays in the delivery of the first of four helicopters this year.

On April 16, Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan said the army would take further action if the appointed contractor failed to deliver the first Black Hawk helicopter by the end of last month.

He was quoted as saying that the Army hopes the contractor would make the delivery of one of four Sikorsky UG-60A+ Black Hawk helicopters leased for the use of the Army Air Corps.
