KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statements of 11 individuals in connection with the recent anti-government rally in Putrajaya.

Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said they were called up to assist the investigation under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

“We recorded the statements of 11 witnesses.

“The statements were recorded at the Putrajaya district police headquarters from 2pm until 4pm today (yesterday),” he said when contacted.

ACP Asmadi said police would also be recording the statement of Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, tomorrow.

“We have not managed to set up an appointment with Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to record his statement,” he added.

On Saturday, a crowd of protesters, mostly attired in black, turned up for the anti-government rally opposite the Prime Minister’s official residence to call for reforms.

Members of the rally’s organising committee took turns to give speeches on various issues affecting the masses, such as the recent diesel subsidy rationalisation, possible removal of the petrol subsidy, proposed privatisation of government healthcare services and shortage of local white rice.

KL police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the rally was illegal and that the organisers had not obtained permission from the venue owner, Putrajaya Corporation, when they submitted a notice to the police on June 14.
