NIBONG TEBAL: Continuing the good work of the late incumbent assemblyman is the main core of the Perikatan Nasional manifesto, as the coalition banks on Nor Zamri Latiff’s track record to retain the seat this weekend.

In unveiling the manifesto ahead of the July 6 polls, state PAS chief Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff said the main theme was all about working for the voters in Sungai Bakap.

“We will be focusing on five key areas and continuing the legacy of Nor Zamri, who brought forth many issues affecting the people in the constituency.

“The five areas are serving the people, economic growth and job opportunities, better infrastructure, prioritising the people’s voice, and serving with trust and integrity,” he said.

Muhammad Fauzi was speaking to reporters at a press conference with Perikatan’s candidate Abidin Ismail yesterday.

Muhammad Fauzi said the party had organised various programmes for the people despite a shortage of funds.

“Some might say, what can an opposition member do if elected? But there are people who support us, and this is how we fulfil our promises.

“We are seeing a shift in the support of non-Malays and expect the number to increase on polling day,” he said.

Abidin, meanwhile, said the manifesto did not have many changes from the version put forward during the state polls last year.

“We have been on the ground since winning last year, acting as the eyes and ears of the people,” he said.

“I will see to it that our pledges to the people of Sungai Bakap are fulfilled if elected as the assemblyman,” he added.

In a separate press conference, activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, slammed Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli for claiming that Perikatan had closed two of its operation centres in Sungai Duri and Sungai Bakap.

“These are lies, as both centres have been active daily, with campaign staff coming from as far as Terengganu to assist,” Badrul Hisham said.

Abidin, 56, is locked in a straight fight for the Sungai Bakap seat with Pakatan Harapan’s Dr Joohari Ariffin.
