KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is committed to strengthening its relations with China across various sectors to attract more investors, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“I hope more investors from China will come to the state as we welcome their presence,” said the Chief Minister when receiving a courtesy call from the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, at the Sabah State Assembly building here on Thursday (July 11).

“Our economy will grow with more investors coming to Sabah, including from China,” Hajiji added.

The Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Huang Shifang, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong were also present.

Hajiji said he was happy to see the influx of Chinese tourists to the state, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The state government will do its best to ensure the safety of the people, including tourists,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ouyang said they expected the influx of Chinese tourists into Malaysia to double during the summer period this month.

He said the Chinese government also encourages investments in Malaysia's digital economy, artificial intelligence and e-commerce.

“Both countries will benefit from the two-way relations, specifically regarding investments in high-end technology,” he said.

The Sabah-Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H) issue was also discussed during the courtesy call.
