KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): More than 100 participants from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are expected at Penang’s Export Day 2024 in Bayan Lepas.

In a statement on Tuesday, organiser Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) said the food and beverage (F&B), machinery and logistics, and lifestyle and service sectors are among the participants in the two-day event which begins on Monday, July 22.

"The public and MSME entrepreneurs are encouraged to attend to strengthen the state's export activities as well as to learn more about product promotion," a Matrade statement said.

There are 958 MSME entrepreneurs in Penang's main sectors which include F&B, business and financial services, healthcare products, construction and environment, and electrical and electronics.

Despite being the second smallest state, Penang has maintained its position as Malaysia's leading exporter in 2023, contributing RM434.74 billion, or 30.5%, to the country's total exports.

Penang's Export Day 2024 is the second in the series after Melaka's Export Day on July 2, organiser Matrade said.

The event is jointly organised with the Penang State Development Corp (PDC) with strategic partners Affin Bank Bhd, Alibaba.com, Exim Bank Malaysia, FedEx Malaysia and Maybank Islamic Bhd.

Matrade chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will grace the event.

The next Export Day 2024 will be held in Kuching, Sarawak on Aug 16, organised in collaboration with Sarawak's International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry (Mintred).

Export Day 2024 is Matrade's annual exporter development programme held in partnership with state governments and the agency's strategic partners.
