KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed lower on Tuesday tracking weaker regional market performance.

At 5pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was down 0.24 per cent or 3.86 points to 1,625.96 versus Monday's close of 1,629.82.

The key index opened marginally higher at 1,631.73 and moved between 1,624.39 and 1,633.97 throughout the trading session today.

The broader market saw losers led gainers 795 to 412 while 495 counters were unchanged.

The index board was a sea of red as FBM100 lost 0.23 per cent to 12,173.13, FBM Emas tumbled 0.25 per cent to 12,600.73 and FBM Ace lost 0.99 per cent to 5,963.08.

Tradeview Capital fund manager Neoh Jia Man said the weaker regional market performance was due to trade friction between the United States and Asia.

"The decline in local index was in line with the weaker regional market performance, which we think was attributable to rising concern over the potential friction in terms of trade relation between US and Asia following rising expectation for a second Trump presidency," he told Business Times.
