JOHOR BARU: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi (pic) has expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for their dedicated efforts in the rescue of six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui.

"I also wish to thank all Malaysians who provided information and assistance during this operation," he said in a statement on Facebook on Tuesday (July 23).

"I appeal to everyone to avoid making any speculations that could interfere with the investigation. May justice be served, and this case be resolved fairly and justly,” he added.

Earlier in the day, six-year-old Albertine, who went missing during a Bon Odori event here on Saturday (July 1), was found safe at a hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor.

This was confirmed by Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The girl's disappearance was later reclassified as kidnapping.

At a separate press conference here, Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said a team raided a room at the budget hotel in Selangor at around 4.30am.

"The team also arrested a 31-year-old man who was with the victim,” he said.

Comm Kumar added that police have informed Albertine’s parents about her rescue and the child is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

He said police had arrested five suspects so far in connection with the case. Three of them were produced in court here on Tuesday morning for a remand order to be issued.
