KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) seized 16 stalls belonging to foreign vendors during an operation in the city centre yesterday.

DBKL, in a statement on its Facebook said the operation was conducted in collaboration with the police, the Immigration Department, the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

The operation also included six members of the Senate from the Special Committee on Social Affairs and Communities of the Malaysian Parliament, who observed the processes and methods used by the local authorities in conjunction with the relevant agencies.

"DBKL carried out 16 seizures under Section 46(1)(d) of the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 and the Licensing of Hawkers By-Laws (WPKL) 2016 for the offence of placing business-related items in public spaces.

"Additionally, four compound notices were issued under the same acts and by-laws," DBKL said.

The statement said the Immigration Department detained 15 foreign nationals, including 14 Bangladeshis and one Myanmar national, while AADK apprehended nine individuals.

IRB inspected 21 business premises, and SSM issued 13 compound notices for various infractions.

All seized items have been taken to the Seizure Depot on Jalan Lombong, Taman Miharja Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, for recording and documentation.

"DBKL will continue to monitor and take action in identified hotspot areas as needed," the statement added.
