KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry received 108,441 applications for its matriculation programme for the 2024/2025 academic session, reports said.

According to a report by Utusan Malaysia, the ministry stated that only 30,000 applications from Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificate holders were accepted into the programme after meeting the requirements for the science, engineering, accounting, and professional accounting majors.

SPM leavers, the ministry added, also have the option to pursue their tertiary education through the Bachelor's Degree in Teaching (PISMP) programme.

"This is a fast and safe path for SPM leavers, with PISMP candidates being placed in teacher training institutions around the country," the ministry said.

As for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students, they also have the opportunity to further their studies to pursue higher education at the diploma level at vocational colleges.

In addition, the ministry offers pathways for those graduating from vocational colleges to continue their studies in TVET through the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN).

Graduates of technical secondary schools and national secondary schools (SMK) can also continue their studies through the ministry's Engineering Matriculation Programme.
