KUALA LUMPUR: Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) Ministry has taken action following a viral video showing a foreign car refuelling with RON95 petrol at a Kuala Lumpur petrol station.

Initial investigations by KPDN Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur identified the location as a petrol station at Penchala Link (West Bound), Plaza Tol Penchala, 60000 Kuala Lumpur.

The incident occurred last Friday (July 19) at approximately 5:11pm.

On Sunday (July 21), around 5:30pm, a team of enforcement officers conducted an investigation and inspection at the identified petrol station.

CCTV footage revealed a black Honda with a foreign registration number refuelling with RON95 petrol.

The vehicle owner paid RM100 in cash, refuelled with RM45 worth of RON95 petrol, and collected the balance from the cashier.

During the incident, both the pump attendant and cashier on duty did not issue any warnings or prevent the refuelling of the foreign-plated vehicle.

The petrol station is suspected of violating the Control of Supplies Act 1961 by selling RON95 petrol to a foreign-registered vehicle.

Enforcement officers seized payment receipts, CCTV recordings, and business documents for further investigation.

If found guilty, individual offenders may be fined not exceeding RM1 million or imprisonment up to three years for the first offence and fines up to RM3 million or imprisonment up to five years, or both for the subsequent offences.

Businesses may be fined not exceeding RM2 million for the first offence and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences.

KPDN urges the public to report any misconduct related to petrol stations or other issues directly to the ministry before such matters go viral, to avoid hindering investigations.

The ministry also requests the video recorder to come forward to provide additional information to complete the investigation.

Earlier today, a petrol station operator was fined RM1 million for selling subsidised petrol to a foreigner in Sungai Bakap after allegedly allowing a foreign vehicle to refuel subsidised petrol last Saturday (July 20).

Penang Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director S. Jegan said the ministry will conduct more aggressive monitoring at all petrol stations, especially those near state borders, to prevent sales of subsidised petrol to foreigners.
