PETALING JAYA: While water disruptions are not new in the Klang Valley, some residents here say they were caught off guard by the sudden cut in their areas.

V. Bernard, 62, said he only learned about the water cut when the water pressure started to weaken on Tuesday. He added that his family managed to store only about three pails of water before the supply was fully cut.

“We have a spare water tank, but we didn’t manage to fill it up because of the last-minute notice. This disrupted our daily activities.

“We can’t cook because of this, and it’s a problem for me. I find it difficult to go out for take-away meals,” the retired academic said.

Bernard added that while the experience was not unique as he had experienced water cuts multiple times before, it was still a major inconvenience for him.

“We hope that the water supply will resume soon,” said Bernard, who lives in Taman Sea here.

Human Resource manager Siti Nurazilah Mustafa who lives in Bandar Puncak Alam said her family had no time to store water after receiving a short notice about the water disruption.

She said that a notice issued by Air Selangor stated that her area would be affected from Wednesday onwards, however, the water pressure had already started to drop earlier.

“Because of that, we were not able to store adequate water, so we had to forgo washing clothes.

“It is difficult because I have school-going children so I need to do the laundry.

“Thankfully, my siblings live nearby and their neighbourhood has yet to be affected by the water disruption.

“I am going to them with my laundry or else I will try a self-service laundrette, provided they have water supply,” the 42-year-old said.

As of press time, Siti Nurazilah said she has yet to receive any notification from Air Selangor about water tankers being sent to her neighbourhood.

Consultant Ezila Kamari, 37, said while her condominium was not affected by the water cut, her children’s schools and daycare centre were affected.

“It is two days now, the mobile app says the estimated recovery for water supply would be this evening.

“As the schools also had no water supply, I had to ensure the kids had extra water bottles for hygiene purposes. My younger kids stayed at home,” she added.

The unscheduled water disruption was caused by an acidic odour that was detected at 3.30pm on Monday at Sungai Kuang near Jalan Kampung Orang Asli, Kuang in Gombak by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas).
