GEORGE TOWN: PDC Setia Urus Sdn Bhd (PDCSU) will carry out an investigation to find out the cause of an early morning water overflow on Level 27 of Komtar, which resulted in most of the lifts going out of operation.

PDCSU chief operating officer Loi Kai Horng told the New Straits Times that their technicians had already stopped the water overflow.

He said at 3.15am today, there was a water overflow from the tank at Level 27 of Komtar, which caused water to flow into the lift cars.

He said all the affected lifts had to be shut down for safety.

"Our technicians have already stopped it.

"We will carry out an investigation to find out the actual root cause," he said.

Loi said, as of now, four low-zone lifts and one mix-zone lift were back in operations.

"The lift contractor is currently onsite checking.

"We will try to resume operations of the other lifts at the soonest," he added.

PDCSU is a company fully owned by PDC Premier Holdings Sdn Bhd (PDCPH), which is a subsidiary of the Penang Development Corporation (PDC).

PDCSU's expertise covers a comprehensive range of property services including managing commercial areas, residential property, mixed development and also organising events and rental of space for event organisers in Penang.

One such building is Komtar, which houses the administrative offices of the state government and Penang Chief Minister.

It was reported that an early morning water overflow on level 27 of Komtar caused most of the lifts to go out of operation.

The incident has since gone viral, with social media postings showing workers and guards sweeping away the water.

There was also a large crowd gathering on the ground floor.
