THE Himpunan Aman Selamatkan Malaysia scheduled for 3pm tomorrow (July 27) at Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s parliamentary constituency in Tambun, Perak will go on as planned.

Lawyer for the organiser Sekretariat Selamatkan Malaysia 2.0 Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali is adamant that the police notification which did not permit the assembly to take place “is not applicable in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (APA 2012).

For context, the organiser has notified the cops of two gatherings - the (i) Ceramah Umum Selamatkan Malaysia ‘Mahkamah Rakyat Hukum Anwar’ slated today (July 26) and (ii) the Himpunan Aman Selamatkan Malaysia - of which the latter did not obtain an official green light.

“On Wednesday (July 24), we received a reply from the police stating that our application for the peaceful rally has been rejected,” Rafique who is also the Pejuang information chief told a media conference by the Sekretariat Selamatkan Malaysia 2.0 in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (July 25).

“I would like to emphasise that we have the APA 2012 whereby people are still allowed to attend our peaceful assembly on July 27 (tomorrow). According to Section 14 of APA 2012, the authority has to respond within three days after receiving information about the staging of our peaceful rally.”

Earlier, the Sekretariat Selamatkan Malaysia 2.0 chairman Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the public talk which features nine speakers will be held at 237, Jalan Menteri, Kampung Manjoi.in Tambun.

“The theme of ‘People’s Court to Punish Anwar’ has been chosen as the curtain-raiser for this year’s Save Malaysia 2.0 Gathering,” noted the former Putrajaya UMNO division deputy head.

“This theme was chosen because after 18 months of being the 10th PM, the people have evaluated the PM’s performance and will decide on his achievements and shortcomings towards them and this country.

“His performance is judged based on the promises that have been made and his achievements in governing this country.”

After Tambun, the second series of the Save Malaysia 2.0 rally will be held in Permatang Pauh, Penang on Aug 31 with the theme of “People’s Gathering to Remove the Spirit of Reform from Anwar” after which the key highlight of the rally will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16 with the target of 100,000 participants. - July 26, 2024
