SUNGAI PETANI: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has hit back at DAP Kota Darul Aman assemblyman Teh Swee Leong for criticising the state government's study to determine of the historical status of Kedah and Penang.

Citing the study and preservation of ancient Egyptian history, Sanusi said it was important to understand the lessons behind their historical value.

Hence, he said studying and understanding the history and status of Penang and Kedah was not a waste of time and resources.

"Our state, our government, we decide what to do. There is value in every bit of knowledge that God provides. God preserved the pharaohs' remains (Egyptian mummies) for us to learn about their lives and rule when they were alive.

"God kept these mummies as a lesson for us. This historical knowledge is undoubtedly beneficial," he said during a press conference today.

Sanusi, who is Perikatan Nasional election director, said it was DAP (Teh's party) that was actually a waste of time and resources.

"DAP is the one that is pointless, they should just dissolve the party," he added.

He said that further detailed information on the status of the Penang and Kedah study would be kept embargoed until December.

On Wednesday, Sanusi announced that the research team formed by the state government to study the historical status of Kedah and Penang was expected to conclude its findings by December.

He said the study was based on more than 20,000 historical archives and agreements dating back as far as 1821 gathered in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Thailand and Indonesia.

Sanusi added that the state government aimed to use the findings to establish a final position on its status in Penang and Kedah before deciding on its next course of action.

In response, Teh described the move as "unnecessary and a waste of resources" while calling for an immediate halt on the study.
