PUTRAJAYA: A bipartisan rally in solidarity with the Palestinian struggles will be held this Sunday, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The government spokesman said the Cabinet has decided to organise the gathering to show support for the people of Palestine.

The rally will take place from 8pm at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

“We will use this space for Malaysians to show solidarity.

“We hope this will send a clear signal to the international community that Malaysia’s stance on the Palestine issue remains unchanged. We will continue to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine,” he said yesterday.

Fahmi said the Cabinet, following its weekly meeting, has condemned the assassination of Hamas’ political bureau leader Ismail Haniyeh in Teheran, Iran, and is standing together with the Palestinian people.

He also said the Cabinet could not send a representative to attend Haniyeh’s funeral due to time constraints.

“However, a representative from the Malaysian embassy will attend on behalf of the government. It is understood that the funeral will take place in Qatar and the embassy representative will be present.”

On Wednesday, the Cabinet called for an investigation into Haniyeh’s assassination so that those responsible can be brought to justice.

Hamas announced on Wednesday that Haniyeh, who was a former Palestinian prime minister was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting his residence in the Iranian capital.

Haniyeh was in Teheran to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
