A minister attending the Paris Olympics on the public purse is expected to represent Malaysia’s interests and to champion and promote our national athletes. 

Yet, we are greeted with special quota treatments for certain VIPs as coaches of our athletes are left out from attending the Olympics.

Determined to disappoint the rakyat once more, our minister has recently deviated from her core responsibilities and acted in her own personal capacity to fangirl over a foreign athlete, and one one who has just defeated our athlete.

There is nothing wrong with having a personal preference, but a minister is expected to grasp the simple concept of "time and place" before displaying disheartening behaviour that may demoralise our fellow athletes and supporters. 

You are paid by the public to carry out your duties in the Paris Olympics instead of engaging in photo-ops with foreign athletes.

Personal interests should always be kept private when acting in public office. Be a moral inspiration to our athletes and fans, work closely with the athletes on how the ministry can provide better support moving forward. 

Better yet, strategise on how we can ensure our coaches can accompany our athletes to future Olympic games instead of reserving it for certain VIPs.
