KUALA LUMPUR: The government is actively conducting a detailed study on the implementation of the latest automation technology for the plantation industry.

Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said this was crucial to enhance the efficiency of plantation processes, from cultivation to production.

He said several roles of automation technology have been identified to boost productivity, in addition to improving workforce skills, Buletin Utama reported.

The latest developments in the technology were presented by the Malaysia Robotics and Automation Society (MyRas) during a courtesy visit to the ministry.

The society also outlined the role of robotics and automation technology in advancing the nation's plantation industry.

In March, Johari said automation was among three advanced technologies that have been identified as methods to enhance the country's palm oil industry and reduce the reliance on foreign labour.

He said these technologies, including mechanisation and digitalisation, could efficiently and effectively boost palm oil production.
