KUALA LUMPUR: Asean member states must stand and work together to ensure a peaceful, stable and prosperous region, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

"Today, we celebrate the 57th Asean Day, an important day to remind ourselves that we must stand and work together to ensure a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.

"Malaysia is devoted to championing cooperation between countries in various fields. Happy 57th Asean Day!" he said on Facebook today.

Anwar said he hoped Asean will continue to strengthen economic partnerships among member states and work together towards a better future.

Asean Day is the annual commemoration of the founding of the bloc, a regional intergovernmental organisation that fosters cooperation and integration among its 10 member states in Southeast Asia.
