IPOH: Having proper infrastructure and stable Internet connectivity are the most important aspects before enforcing the e-invoicing system, says Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

The MCA deputy president said the government should study the implications first and not implement the scheme as part of an experiment.

He said over the past few months, there were so many versions of the scheme, creating unnecessary confusion.

“The policy was supposed to be implemented in 2027 but it was somehow pushed forward earlier.

“The Internet connectivity in the sub-urban and even in urban areas is not stable, and this poses huge problems for businesses,” he said in his speech at the Perak MCA annual convention yesterday.

The convention was opened by party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Mah said under normal circumstances, e-invoicing was part of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“People will not carry out e-invoicing without implementing GST.

“If the government implements GST at 4%, they are able to generate more income than other taxation system,” he added.

Dr Mah also highlighted how DAP now prioritised small issues.

“Previously, DAP used to support the call to bring back local council elections.

“However, now they prioritise issues like BMW (bersih, menawan, wangi) toilets while other important ones like the recognition of Unified Examination Certificate are brushed aside,” he added.

Dr Mah also said MCA must strengthen the camaraderie among party members.

“We must attract the support of the youth and be more open to their views as an effort to groom new generation of leaders.

“We must use information technology to disseminate information so that the people are aware of the struggles of the party,” he said, adding that more brainstorming programmes were also needed.
