KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional's victory in the Nenggiri by-election not only reflects people's trust in the unity government's leadership, but also underscores the strong unity and cooperation within the coalition.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu expressed his gratitude to all party staff and machinery who worked diligently and with full dedication to secure the victory for the unity government candidate in Nenggiri.

"Congratulations on the victory of the unity government candidate in Nenggiri.

"This win not only reflects the people's trust in our leadership but also represents the strong unity and cooperation within the unity government," he said in a statement yesterday.

BN has captured the Nenggiri state seat after its candidate won the Nenggiri by-election last night.

BN's candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani garnered 9,091 votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional's Rizwadi Ismail who received 5,739 votes.

The Nenggiri seat was declared vacant by Kelantan state assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19, following Mohd Azizi's expulsion from Bersatu on June 13.

Meanwhile, Mohamad, who is also the Agriculture and Food Security Minister said Amanah remains committed to ensuring the same success in the upcoming Mahkota by-election in Johor.

"With strong unity, we will continue to work hard to secure victory for the unity (government) candidate there," he said.

The Election Commission has set the Mahkota by-election for Sept 28.

Nomination day is on Sept 14, and early voting is set for Sept 24.

The seat became vacant following the death of its previous assemblyman, Umno's Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, on Aug 2.

On Aug 13, BN chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the BN candidate would contest the upcoming Mahkota by-election, as agreed upon by the unity government parties.
