PETALING JAYA: Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has pulled out from the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) elections.

He was supposed to compete for the president’s post and even formed his own group for the elections but he announced on his social media pages that he was pulling out from the race.

Nazmi revealed that the Cabinet has barred its ministers from competing for posts in sports associations.

"The Cabinet decided today that ministers would not be allowed to compete for sports association positions. Thus, I would like to announce that I accept the decision and will pull out from the presidential elections," he said in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday (Aug 28).

The decision from the Cabinet would also mean that Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil would not be allowed to compete for the top post in KLFA as well.
