KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia remains committed to empowering artificial intelligence (AI) technology through the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2021-2025 and the implementation of the Digital Education Policy.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the potential of AI technology should continue to be explored to support the country's educational goals while upholding human values.

In a statement today, the ministry said Fadhlina, who is leading the Malaysian delegation to the Digital Learning Week 2024 in Paris, had met with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) deputy director-general Xing Qu on Tuesday.

"The discussions between the two parties also covered the agenda of education for all, the empowerment of science and technology, and ethics in AI."

Fadhlina, who is also the Malaysia National Commission for Unesco president, had also expressed the country's intention to seek a seat on Unesco's executive board for the 2025-2029 term.

"This aligns with Malaysia's experience, commitment, image, and reputation as an active member state playing a leading role in regional and global programmes.

"Xing Qu expressed appreciation for Malaysia's ongoing commitment to strengthening Unesco's agenda," the ministry said.
