Major reshuffle of sec-gens beginning tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: A sweeping reshuffle of secretaries-general across multiple ministries has taken place.

Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing efficiency and effectiveness within the public sector.

The reshuffle involves the secretaries-general of the following ministries:

-Health Ministry: Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad (currently secretary-general of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry).

-National Unity Ministry: Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad (currently secretary-general of the Works Ministry).

-Works Ministry: Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim (previously director-general of the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU)).

-Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU): Datuk Indera Nik Nasarudin Mohd Zawawi (currently secretary-general of the Education Ministry).

-Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry (Kuskop): Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud (currently secretary-general of the Human Resources Ministry).

-Human Resources Ministry: Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof (currently secretary-general of the National Unity Ministry).

-Education Ministry: Datuk Ruji Ubi (currently secretary-general of the Home Ministry).

-Home Ministry: Datuk Awang Alik Jeman (currently deputy secretary-general of the Prime Minister's Department).

-Prime Minister's Department: Datuk Abd Shukor Mahmood (currently deputy secretary-general (Management) of the Prime Minister's Department).

-Defence Ministry: Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali (currently secretary-general of the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry).

-Agriculture and Food Security Ministry: Datuk Seri Isham Ishak (currently secretary-general of the Defence Ministry).

The new appointments will take effect tomorrow while Lokman Hakim and Isham will begin their appointments on Sept 23.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on Sept 2, said that Shamsul will work closely with his team and civil servants to improve government performance and meet the expectations of both the civil service and the public.

Shamsul, previously the director-general of the Public-Private Partnership Unit (Ukas), succeeded Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, whose term ends on Aug 10.

With 30 years of public service, Shamsul's experience includes roles at the Finance Ministry, Public Service Department, and state government administration.
