PETALING JAYA: As an inclusive nationalist party, Bersatu celebrates Malaysia’s identity as a country that upholds bumiputra rights while also respecting equal rights for other races, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“This is the basis of Malaysia’s unity and harmony according to the Federal Constitution and social contract achieved even before Independence.

“On these foundations, we build a peaceful, harmonious and prosperous society. It is also here where we maintain political stability and spearhead the country’s success amidst its diverse makeup,” the Bersatu president said in a statement in conjunction with Bersatu’s eighth anniversary on Sunday (Sept 8).

However, Muhyiddin said this basis was continuously challenged, and the party’s fight to uphold the Malays and bumiputra rights were now perceived as 3R (royalty, religion and race) offences.

“We are accused of sedition and can be charged in courts when we are actually upholding our party’s cause," he said.

Muhyiddin added that it was ironic how the current government, during its time in the Opposition bench, strongly fought for the people’s rights and rode on the “reformasi” label.

He also claimed that the government was fervently halting the people from speaking up on Malay and bumiputra rights as well as the position of Islam, which were part of Bersatu's cause.
