KOTA BARU: Kelantan Pas Youth lodged a police report today, calling for an investigation into Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok over her remarks on halal certification.

The report was filed by its chief Mohamad Kamal Mohamad at the Pengkalan Chepa district police station around 3.30pm.

Kamal told reporters that the movement believed Kok's comments had offended Muslims in Malaysia.

"She should not have made those remarks, as halal certification is well-established in Malaysia and recognised globally," Kamal said. "Her comments could incite negative reactions among Muslims."

Kamal expressed hope that the Council of Rulers would intervene and take serious action against Kok, citing that this is not the first time Kok has questioned issues related to Islam.

Kamal said other DAP leaders had also made many statements on issues involving race, religion, and royalty (3R).

He said they called on Muslim leaders to take decisive action, emphasising that religious interests are being challenged.

"Muslims in Malaysia have never interfered with the rights of other religions. We expect many more matters related to Islam will be questioned to create a bad situation in Malaysia in various aspects including education," he said.

Kok, who is also DAP vice-chairman, recently commented on a proposal by the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) that would require all food establishments not serving pork or alcohol to obtain halal certification.

She argued that making halal certification mandatory could burden small businesses, restrict consumer freedom, and conflict with Malaysia's cultural diversity. She has advocated for voluntary certification based on market demand.

Kok's remarks have been criticised by Umno leaders, opposition members, non-governmental organisations, and the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia.

The police have confirmed that an investigation has been initiated against Kok following five reports lodged against her.
