KUALA LUMPUR: The government has vowed to continue addressing the people's issues after achieving various milestones in its nearly 22 months in office.

Unity government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said although the current administration has been the longest-serving since Pakatan Harapan first took over the government in 2018, the question remains about what more can be accomplished before the end of its term.

"This government has been in place longer than any since 2018, but this is not something to take pride in by itself. The bigger question is what will we do with the time we have left.

"In less than 2½years, we will be handing back the mandate to the people in a general election.

"Therefore, what matters most is what we've achieved over the past two years and what we aim to accomplish in the remaining time," Fahmi said in the Minister's Conversation event at the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) here today.

Since assuming office in December 2022, Fahmi said the government has made considerable progress, particularly in the economy.

They include the strengthening of the ringgit, which previously faced a downtrend last year.

He also added that during this period, the country saw an increase in investments and a reduction in the gross domestic product (GDP) deficit.

Looking ahead, Fahmi emphasised the importance of driving further development and continuing efforts to ease the rising cost of living.

"Our priority is to resolve the people's challenges in moving forward," he said.

Additionally, he said the government has fulfilled seven demands relating to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's vision of upholding the justice principle.

"The agreement, established by Malaysia's founding fathers in 1963, imposes a responsibility on this administration to fulfil as many of its provisions as possible," Fahmi said.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof recently announced that 11 demands under the MA63 negotiation platform had been resolved, seven of which were settled under Anwar's leadership, including the designation of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Sabah and Sarawak as a Technical Department.
