KUALA LUMPUR: Digital advancements have the potential to bring 'light' to communities nationwide while fostering connectivity and progress, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said.
He said this message fits perfectly with the celebration of Deepavali, which is also known as the festival of lights.
"The digital world has the potential to bring a new ray of hope to us all, especially as we aim to create a secure, inclusive digital ecosystem.
"The Digital Ministry is committed to empowering three key pillars: infrastructure, digital resilience, and talent.
"At the same time, data is a vital asset that must be safeguarded. Proactive measures have already been implemented to ensure that the data of Malaysian citizens and businesses is secure," he said in a speech during the Madani Deepavali Open House celebration at Sentul Depot, here.
Present at the event were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Ghani, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Investment Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Johari Abdul.
Also in attendance was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Gobind said that technology also has an everyday impact, with many Malaysians celebrating Deepavali using digital platforms and applications.
"Since last night, many of you have probably sent Deepavali greetings through WhatsApp and may even have used AI applications to enhance photos and videos before uploading them to social media.
"Digital technology has become the backbone of modern life, and we must be prepared to support and secure this ecosystem for the benefit of all Malaysians."
Touching on the event, Gobind added that it holds significance for Deepavali, embodying unity and moral integrity.
"This celebration is a reminder to us all, whether as individuals or as representatives of the government, to promote positivity and ensure our roles contribute to a safe, equitable digital space.
"Let us use this light to uplift our communities and connect with one another across digital boundaries," he said.
