BUKIT MERTAJAM: Cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) should continue in the upcoming elections, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said that it was difficult for any political party to gain a comfortable majority and that Malaysia had been considered one of the most politically stable countries in the region over the past two years.
"This stability has made it so that when we recently applied to join BRICS, among the 30 countries that applied, Malaysia was one of the easiest to be accepted by the founding BRICS nations," he said during the Sesi Temu Anwar di Karnival Generasi Ada Idea (Gen-AI) here today.
Anwar said that this political stability had also allowed Malaysia to establish clear government policies regarding digital plans, semiconductors, energy transition, and more.
He said that these policies were supported by an efficient administration with the appointment of a new Chief Secretary to the Government, who aims to implement changes among civil servants.
"If this is agreed upon and we reach a consensus within the Cabinet, I think it is appropriate for us to seek ways to continue the cooperation between PH and BN," he added.
Also present were Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.
Earlier today, Anwar expressed his belief that the unity government would continue in the current term and beyond the next general election. He expressed confidence in the stability of the unity government.
"For now, things are a bit settled. It's politically stable. I think the coalitions are working together, and we are discussing matters even beyond this term of office.
"If we remain steadfast and consistent with our policies, then I believe we will receive the mandate from the people to proceed," he said, according to a report from Free Malaysia Today.
