Tan Sri Dato' Sri Abi Musa Asa'ari bin Mohamed Nor started his career in the Malaysian Civil Service as Assistant Director in Public Service Department in 1973. He then served at the National Bureau of Investigation, National Institute of Public Administration and Petroleum Development Unit of the Prime Minister's Department before being appointed as the Deputy Budget Director in the Ministry of Finance in 1995. 

In 1998, he joined Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA) as the Director General and subsequently as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrobased Industry from 2001 before retiring in 2006.
