A Mechanical engineer by training, Tan Sri Nik Mohamed Yaacob holds B.E. (Hons) Degree from Monash University and a Masters in Business Management from Asian Institute of Management. He also completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard University

Tan Sri Nik Mohamed Yaacob was the Group Chief Executive and Director of Sime Darby Berhad from 1993 to June 2004. Other Malaysian public companies in which he was a director were companies within the Sime Darby Group. He was also the Chairman of the Advisory Council of National Science Centre and Chairman of the Board of UiTM and served as member of the INSEAD East Asian Council, National Council for Scientific Research and Development and various other public-private sector committees. He was a representative for Malaysia in the Apec Business Advisory Council and the Asia-Europe Business Forum.
